The UNLV Running Rebels are back on track after a heartbreaking loss last Friday, bouncing back in a big way against Wyoming with a commanding 69-59 victory.
EJ Harkless stole the show, putting on an offensive clinic with a game-high 33 points, shooting an impressive 8 of 12 from the field, 5 of 8 from behind the arc. Harkless was relentless on the court, attacking the lane with ease and shooting lights out from the 3-point line. He also added 8 rebounds to his impressive stats, leaving Wyoming with no answer for his shooting exhibition.
Wyoming Coach Jeff Linder was in awe of Harkless' performance, stating, "He's a talented scorer and player. A lot of his shots tonight were challenging, but he made them look effortless. There was a crucial stretch in the second half where he took over and opened the game up for the Rebels."
The first half was a closely contested battle, with UNLV edging out Wyoming 25-24. But it was Harkless who took over in the second half, scoring 24 of his 33 points and putting the Rebels in the driver's seat. Wyoming briefly held the lead for a moment in the second half, but a clutch 3-pointer by McCabe at the 16:18 mark put UNLV back in front and they never looked back.
K. Gilbert also contributed to the UNLV victory with 10 points and 3 assists, while Wyoming was led by Hunter Maldonado with 17 points.
With this win, the Running Rebels improve their record to 16-8 and set their sights on a top 25 opponent, San Diego, this Saturday on the road. UNLV fans are eager to see their team continue their winning ways and prove their worth against a tough opponent.
