The UNLV Rebels had their three-game winning streak snapped by the Fresno State Bulldogs Friday night, as they lost 82-79 in a battle that was full of lead changes and ties. EJ Harkless led all scorers with 27 points, while Keshon Gilbert added 19 and Luis Rodriguez contributed nine for the Runnin' Rebels. On the other hand, Fresno State was led by Jemari Barker Jr.'s 23 points, Isaiah Hill scored 22, and Isaih Moore added 11.
The game was a close encounter with 15 lead changes and eight ties. The Rebels started strong, leading 43-37 at halftime, but Fresno State came back with a strong push in the second half, shooting 52.2% from behind the arc and finishing the game 49.0% from the field. Fresno State also dominated in the rebounding game, with a 33-27 advantage over UNLV.
UNLV head coach Kevin Kruger had a message for his team after the loss, urging them to "get back to work". He credited the defeat to a lack of fire, a problem that had also arisen in a previous loss against Boise State. The Rebels will now look to bounce back in their next two road games at Wyoming on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and at No. 22 San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Overall, the game was a thrilling encounter that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats.
UNLV's streak may have been broken, but they will now look to bounce back and duplicate their early season success.
